Registration deadline for deacon wives’ retreat is Friday

The registration deadline is this Friday for the annual Wives and Widows of Permanent Deacons retreat, which will be the weekend of Aug. 12-14 at the Springhill Suites, 424 E. Parkcenter Blvd. in Boise.

Allison Gingras, a Catholic author and speaker, is leading this year’s retreat, “Seeking Peace: Moving from Worry to Trust.”

Gingras has written books, guided journals and hosts a podcast. She is also a Catholic media consultant, who has worked with catholicmom.com, Family Rosary and the Diocese of Fall River, Mass. Her husband has been a deacon for three years.

“Stress for deacon's wives include navigating Mass and expectations of parishioners and others,” Gingras said. Another area of stress is finding where God is calling them to serve, while supporting their husbands in their ministry, she said.

“The foundation of each section of the retreat is using the tenets of our faith – prayer sacrament, and Scripture – to help us find peace in our families, finances, and all aspects of our lives,” she said.

The retreat begins on Friday evening, Aug. 12, with a social hour before the first session. On Saturday, following a vigil Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary in Boise, retreatants will have a “paint and sip” social and dinner with Debbie Fischer. The retreat ends on Sunday morning at 11:30.

Registration is available for 50 participants. This year’s retreat is being sponsored by the Office of the Director of Deacons and Deacon Formation, and registration is at no cost.

Hotel rooms are available at a special retreat rate of $95 per night, before taxes and fees. To reserve a room contact the Springhill Suites Boise Parkcenter at 208-342-1044 and refer to the code “Deacon Wives Retreat.”

“Our goal for the Wives and Widows of Deacons Group is to support one another in faith, provide communication and outreach for each other, and to experience an enriching fellowship, as wives and widows of deacons,” said Ludee Vermaas, coordinator for the group.
